Dr. Joella Koss, DVM is the owner-operator of “All About Animals Pet Clinic” in Mahomet. In 2008, she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Illinois. In 2013, after working for some other area veterinarians, she took the entrepreneurial plunge, purchasing the old Pickle Tree Farms building and opening All About Animals Pet Clinic.
Dr. Koss and her team at All About Animals Pet Clinic took dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic head-on in March 2020.
“We never closed,” told Dr. Koss after she received the October 2020 Covid-19 “Best Practices” award. “I just wanted to take care of our customers and their pets and still provide services, plus protect my employees. We have followed and adapted to the rapid changes in local and state guidelines.”
“We’ve been operating via valet service for six months. Veterinary medicine, grooming, and boarding during a global pandemic has been a wild ride and we’re still learning,” said practice manager, Dana Taylor.
“Our clients don’t like waiting outside for their pets while we provide services, but they realize it is necessary right now. We know it is a strange feeling to have one’s pet examined without being present and we are looking forward to the day that we can welcome our pet owners through our doors”, lamented Dr. Voss.
“I’ve had no drop in our business with implementing our procedures that forces us to have our customers remain in their vehicles and call to check-in to decrease COVID-19 risk.”
Dr. Koss did state that she believes pets can get infected with COVID-19, but they don’t get sick like humans. “It appears that it can spread from people to animals in some situations. Until we learn more about this new coronavirus, you should restrict contact with pets if you are infected with Covid-19. Routine testing of animals for COVID-19 is not recommended at this time.”
Dr. Koss believes that the risk of virus transmission by fomites (inanimate surfaces or objects) is very low.
Her team is working on offering more “telehealth” visits, but such visits are strictly regulated by the State.
All About Animals Pet Clinic is a member of both the Mahomet and Champaign County Chambers of Commerce and recently received honors in the People’s Choice Awards for 6 different pet categories!
