Bloodborne Pathogen Testing & Treatment

Bloodborne pathogens are those infectious microorganisms in human blood that can develop into diseases. These include, but are not limited to, Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and are regulated by OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 1910.1030.

Workers in many occupations, including first responders, housekeeping personnel in some industries, nurses and other healthcare personnel, and restaurant or other hospitality occupations may all be at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Testing

SafeWorks Illinois provides lab services to identify whether or not an employee has been exposed to any bloodborne pathogen.

Treatment

SafeWorks Illinois utilizes the treatment protocols developed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Prevention

The occupational health specialists at SafeWorks Illinois can assist employers in developing a customized plan to meet the requirements of OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 1910.1030. This standard applies to all employers whose employees are or may be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials while on the job.

We can help:

  • Develop an exposure control plan;
  • Determine those employees at risk for exposure;
  • Educate and train employees on exposure and personal protective measures;
  • Identify guidelines for Hepatitis B immunizations and providing on-site Hepatitis B immunizations when requested;
  • Identify and provide the components of a post-exposure follow-up process.
