Wamaitha Sullivan, DNP, FNP-BC brings 10 years of experience as an APRN in a variety of practice settings. In 2009, she earned her Master’s in Nursing at the University of Illinois, Chicago, (UIC). She is certified by the US Department of Transportation as an examiner of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) drivers for the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME).
A native of Kenya, Ms. Sullivan is well-known in the Champaign community as a nurse educator and community activist. She has worked at the Frances Nelson Health Center and is very involved with the Love (Free) Clinic in Champaign. She is currently employed at Gibson Area Hospital as well. Her passion for learning, giving, and teaching has earned her widespread recognition.
In addition to Ms. Sullivan’s role as a clinical instructor for the UIC College of Nursing, she also serves as the Chair of Region 4 of the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nursing. ISAPN is a professional organization dedicated to promoting and advocating for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. Ms. Sullivan also became a certified yoga teacher in May 2018.
“Finding yoga has calmed my mind, cleared my focus, enhanced my outlook on life that ‘nothing is permanent’ and given me a positive outlook on life. I can see clearly the long journey I have taken for my wellness and I would like to expose other people to this goodness,” shared Ms. Sullivan.
